So… What Is Astrology?
Astrology is the study of cycles. The observation of how the sky meets the Earth. Planets move, stars shine- what’s “up there” echoes what’s “down here.”
I’m not exactly sure how it all works. In fact, I don’t think anyone knows exactly how astrology works. Like Tarot, that’s its magic. It blends geometry, astronomy, and symbolism into a system that’s both mathematical and mystical.
Ancient thinkers summed it up best with the Hermetic principle: As above, so below. As within, so without.
Everything is always moving, we are in a constant state of motion and vibration, in sync with the everything else - even the cosmos, eventually the patterns line up and tell a story. It’s not lucky or unlucky… it’s just a language. If you learn it, you’ve basically unlocked your own cosmic cheat code.
Astrology is less about cause-and-effect and more about synchronicity, a cosmic looking glass reflecting life’s moods and dramas back at us. Your chart is YOUR plan for you, not someone else’s plan for you.
Astrology expands your possibilities.
Sure, skeptics roll their eyes and dismiss astrology as pseudo-science—but the patterns are hard to ignore, the synchronicities speak for themselves. Today it’s less “cheesy horoscopes in the back of a tabloid” and more like cosmic therapy that will call you out. At times, a “hit you right between the eyes” kind of clarity. Astrology helps us zoom out when life gets messy, connect dots we’d otherwise miss, and remember that our stories are part of a larger cosmic tapestry.
The zodiac says: here are your patterns, here are your choices, now what do you want your story to be?
For thousands of years, humans have been decoding astrology’s symbolic language. Ancient Mesopotamians ( 3100 BC) were the original sky-gazers, tracking celestial rhythms long before hashtags and magazine horoscopes. When their techniques cross-pollinated during the Hellenistic era (320 BC – 30BC) , astrology got its first glow-up: a full system built on four main building blocks—
· Planets = the players
· Signs = their costumes
· Houses = the stage sets (aka areas of your life)
· Aspects = the drama between them
And like any grand tradition, astrology branched out:
· Natal = your chart, your destiny vibes
· Mundane = world events & politics
· Horary = quick answers, planet-style
· Electional = picking the perfect moment
· Relationship = cosmic compatibility check
Why Astrology Matters for Self-Understanding-
Astrology is one of the oldest tools humans have used to understand themselves and their relationship to the world around them. Ii is absolutely NOT about predicting your future—
Your birth chart is a snapshot of the heavens at your first inhale, your very first breath. The moment you were born—it’s a cosmic, arithmetic selfie. A portal to yourself! Your chart is a symbolic map of your tendencies, strengths, challenges, and desires. Knowing your “map” helps you name things you’ve always felt, see patterns more clearly, and hopefully, make more intentional choices.
Birth charts are divided into 12 zodiac signs, and 12 houses (or the “rooms” of your life), these rooms are filled with planets that are in constant conversation with each other and whatever shenanigans the current cosmos is up to. Over centuries, astrologers used this framework to decode everything from personality quirks to political upheavals.
YOUR BIG THREE-
If you’re new to astrology, start with your “Big Three” the holy trinity of your chart—your starry starter pack.
· Sun = your main character energy, the core of who you are.
· Moon = your emotional world and instincts. All your feels and midnight snack moods.
· Rising = your vibe, the mask you wear when you step into the world. How others see you.
Know your “Big Three” and you’ve got the essence of your personality. Everything else in the chart plays off these three anchors.
The planets closest to the Sun are called “Inner Planets”, they move quickly through the zodiac, affecting our daily lives. Jupiter to Pluto are called “Outer Planets” they move slower, and shape bigger themes in our lives. The way out there planets like Neptune, Uranus and Pluto are called generational planets. They take decades to move signs, so many people in a specific generation all share the same placement.
The outer planets (like Pluto) weren’t discovered until more recently.
♅ Uranus was discovered in 1781; it was the first planet spotted with a telescope. Its arrival was a cosmic mic drop—it symbolized revolution, rebellion, and breaking the mold, which makes sense considering it was found right in the middle of the American/French revolutions.
♇ Pluto is an alchemist, it’s all about destruction, transformation and resurrecting power Pluto wasn’t discovered until 1930, it’s discovery synced up with the rise of deep psychology, nuclear power, and some unfathomable immoral themes happening in the collective- like the great depression, racism, and basically non-stop war. It was immediately pegged as the ruler of transformation, death, rebirth, and everything taboo.
So while ♅ Uranus and Pluto were late to the party, the way they showed up in history made their archetypal roles pretty undeniable.
Other Planetary themes:
♀ Venus is our love language. She shows how we love, attract, adorn and how we indulge. Venus reigns over what makes us feel good in relationships and in life - our values, pleasures and self-worth. Most importantly how we give and receive.
♂ Mars is how we fight and how we fuck. (lol) The God of war is the ultimate warrior archetype. He rules our desires, how we take action, our fights, and fuels our passions.
☿ Mercury is the messenger of the Gods, he links humans to other realms. He rules communication, how we think, talk, write and how connect with others. Mercury moves FAST, he thinks fast, and talks fast.
♃ Jupiter, the planet of expansion and good luck juices EVERYTHING up. (Good & bad). But he also keeps us safe. Jupiter’s massive magnetic field keeps shit from spiraling into Earth’s orbit. Jupiter is the wise teacher, trying to expand you mind for your soul’s sake.
♄ Saturn, aka Sky Daddy rules reality, karmic lessons, and responsibilities. Saturn is the cosmos harsh task master for your highest good. He’s totally judgey. But if you show up with solid boundaries and discipline, he’ll reward you, (eventually) remember he moves slow.
♆ Neptune is the mystic, the foggy planet of dreams, mysticism and illusion. Neptune is linked with imagination, spirituality, glamour, and escapism—its the planet of both divine inspiration and delicious delusion.
Skeptical or not, Astrology is part of our everyday lives.

Each Zodiac Sign Corresponds to one of The Four Elements -
Fire - Aries | Leo | Sagittarius
Earth - Taurus | Virgo | Capricorn
Air - - Gemini | Libra | Aquarius
Water - Cancer | Scorpio | Pisces
Then one sign from each element, gets assigned one of the Three Modalities-
Cardinal represents the initiation process into a new season. The energy is active, quick, ambitious, and enthusiastic. It corresponds with zodiac signs: Aries | Cancer | Libra | Capricorn
Fixed represents the stabilizing energy of the season. The energy is steady, persistent, stable, determined, and self-reliant. It corresponds with zodiac signs: Taurus | Leo | Scorpio | Aquarius
Mutable represents the adaptable energy of the season when one converts to the next. The energy is flexible, changeable, versatile, resourceful, and go with the flow. It corresponds with zodiac signs: Gemini | Virgo | Sagittarius | Pisces
Starting with Aries, each sign is aligned within the four seasons and that seasons modality.
The Cardinal signs - Aries | Cancer | Libra | Capricorn commence each season. Aries/Spring, Cancer/Summer, Libra/Fall, and Capricorn/ Winter.
The Fixed signs - Taurus | Leo | Scorpio | Aquarius are static in the middle of each season. Taurus/Spring, Leo/Summer, Scorpio/Fall, Aquarius/Winter.
The Mutable signs - Gemini | Virgo | Sagittarius | Pisces are the transitional stages of each season. They pass the baton to the next Cardinal sign. Gemini/Spring, Virgo/Summer, Sagittarius/Fall, Pisces/Winter.
It’s all just a cycle.
